Amscot supports program that mobilizes and empowers local residents with refurbished vehicles

Tampa FL – Amscot Financial recently donated $2,500 to help Wheels of Success during its 12 Cars of Christmas program. The program offers refurbished vehicles to working families who need reliable transportation but could not otherwise afford it.

Amscot’s contribution was used to repair a 2004 Toyota Highlander to excellent driving condition so that a single mom, Tanisha, could have reliable transportation for getting to work, doctor visits and the grocery store. Tanisha cares for a special needs child and also took custody of her niece and nephew when her grandmother died. Trying to get by on public transportation was extremely difficult.

“There are a lot of hardworking people out there facing extraordinary challenges,” says Ian MacKechnie, Amscot’s founder, chairman and CEO. “This program makes a difference by offering individuals like Tanisha the tools to succeed.”
Tanisha’s vehicle was the tenth vehicle offered through this year’s 12 Cars of Christmas program. The 2004 Toyota Highlander is worth approximately $7,550 according to its listed NADA book value, but through the program Tanisha is able to purchase it for $1,500, making payments of $125 a month for one year.

The Wheels of Success organization obtains vehicles through purchase or donations then has them restored to good running condition. Individuals chosen to participate in the program make monthly payments based on their ability to pay.  Since 2003, Wheels of Success has given away 953 vehicles.

Amscot Financial has 237 branch locations throughout Florida. The company offers check cashing, cash advances, and free money orders along with a host of other convenient financial services, 365 days a year.
